"Answering violence with violence is not the way of a real leader. You, Bill, are no boss. You have managed one thing, however. To damage me in an election year. I'll return in two weeks. When I return, I want changes. And if I don't get them, I will replace you and your accountant. Understood?"

Governor Hughes is a United States governor that appears in The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence) as Bill Boss' business superior. He is played by Academy Award nominated actor Eric Roberts.

Biography[]

Governor Hughes visits George H. W. Bush State Prison due to the poor results turned out by prison warden Bill Boss as it ruins his chances at the current election year. Bill is cautious of Hughes' reception of the prison statistics and enlists Daisy to try to seduce the Governor into falling into a sexual harassment lawsuit. Hughes brushes off her advances and refuses Bill's offer of cigars from the Dominican Republic, only smoking Cuban cigars (which Bill calls "communistic cigars"). Bill tries to put the blame on his accountant Dwight Butler and wants to fire him, but Governor Hughes gets to the chase and threatens to replace them if they don't improve things in two weeks when he returns.

When Governor Hughes visits the prison a second time, he is ready to fire both Bill and Dwight the moment he walks in their office. They lead the confused Governor into the courtyard where they reveal to him their solution - a human prison centipede. Hughes is disgusted at the notion, calling the two insane and that they should be put to death before leaving abruptly. He leaves the prison in his limo and thinks about what he witnessed. Moments later, Governor Hughes reenters the prison with a change of heart and proclaims that the human prison centipede is "exactly what America needs", believing that this could even lead to him to becoming president. He then leaves to spread the news to Washington.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

"Here we have Eric Roberts, the most famous actor in this movie. Why him? I wanted the ultimate American. He has this great mean face, this ass hole-ish, vile face. Good looking, too. He's an all American guy, I think. And he has a great voice. And that's why I wanted him."
Tom Six

Upon casting for The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence), writer/director Tom Six was searching for a very specific type of actor. According to Six, "I was looking for an all-American actor with a great face and I immediately thought of Eric Roberts. I've seen him so many films and I thought, 'He's the ultimate bad guy.' We approached him, and we Skyped together, and he got the script, and he wanted to do it immediately."[2] Six says that Eric Roberts is a fan of The Human Centipede (First Sequence), which contributed to him agreeing to portray Governor Hughes after the Skype call.[3] Following the casting, Six described Eric Roberts as "a great, underrated actor with a delicious, worn, malicious face. He was perfect for the part and a real gentleman."[4] While reminiscing on the casting, Tom Six recalled "I saw a lot of films with [Eric Roberts] in the 80s and 90s, I always said 'I absolutely hate that guy and I want to work with him.' And 'hate,' I mean everything I saw from him on the screen. So here he is on my set."[5]
